'Loud,' 'Flowers' to unspool in Berlin
BERLIN -- Stephen Daldry's publish 9/11 drama "Very Noisy & Incredibly Close" and Zhang Yimou's "The Flowers of War" will unspool in the Berlin Film Festival, which runs February. 9-19.
While screening within the primary Competition section, both films is going to be proven from competition. "Very Noisy & Incredibly Close," starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Thomas Horn, follows a troubled boy because he struggles to simply accept the dying of his father.
Christian Bale stars in "The Flowers of War," a good opportunistic American who eventually ends up attempting to save several adolescent girl students in addition to a quantity of courtesans from entering Japanese troops throughout the rape of Nanjing. The pic is representing China in next year's foreign-language film race. The photos are some of the first five Competition section game titles introduced on Monday by Berlinale coordinators. Unspooling competing are Filipino Brillante Mendoza's Filipino terrorist drama "Captive" Antonio Chavarrias' The spanish language title "Dictado" (Childish Games) and Indonesian helmer Edwin's "Kebun binatang" (Postcards In the Zoo), all of which screen as world premieres. Coordinators also introduced five films screening included in the Berlinale Special, such as the world premiere of "Marley," the documentary about reggae star Bob Marley by Kevin Macdonald ("The Final King of Scotland") and "Dying Row," Werner Herzog's four-part documentary series. Likewise showing included in Berlinale Special are Farhan Akhtar's Bollywood actioner "Don: The King Has Returned,Inch starring Shah Rukh Khan and which shot largely in Germany Guy Maddin's "Keyhole," with Jason Patric and Isabella Rossellini and Salma Hayek starrer "La Chispa p la vida," by The spanish language director Alex p la Iglesia ("The Oxford Killings"). Meanwhile, the fest has employed a slew of high-profile personas for everyone about this year's Worldwide Jury, including Mike Gyllenhaal, Anton Corbijn ("The American") and Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, who authored and directed last year's Golden Bear champion, "A Separation." Also on jury duty is going to be German thesp Barbara Sukowa ("Vision"), French-British actress Charlotte now Gainsbourg ("Melancholia") Gallic helmer Francois Ozon ("Potiche") and Algerian author Boualem Sansal. As formerly introduced, British helmer Mike Leigh is becoming jury leader. The Worldwide Jury will choose the those who win from the Golden Bear and Silver Bear honours along with the Alfred Bauer Prize within the Berlinale Competition.
